The University of Los Llanos - Unillanos, is an academic institution of higher education of a public nature, of the national order, initially created as “Technological University of the Eastern Plains” - Utello, through Law 8 of 1974 and Decree 2513 of 25 November of the same year, issued by the Ministry of National Education. Its creation was based on the regional need to have an institution that formed the human talent of what has been called the “average Colombia”, formed by the department of Meta and then called Commissaries of Vaupés, Guainía and Vichada and the Intendencies from Casanare and Arauca; characterized by its incalculable natural resources and its agricultural and livestock vocation, in addition to its incipient economic, social and cultural development and a marked dependence on the central entity, in the full extent of the word, since higher education was a privilege that only they could have those people who had sufficient economic resources to move to the capital of the country. In the beginning, the institution focused on the training of professionals to meet the demand of professionals in the area of ​​health and education and to respond to the agricultural and livestock expansion of the region, through the five pioneer programs to know: Agronomy, Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics, Nursing, Bachelor of Mathematics and Physics and Bachelor of Agricultural Sciences.
