The Won Institute

Won Institute of Graduate Studies in Glenside, Pennsylvania, offers graduate degree programs grounded in Buddhist meditation practice and Eastern philosophy. In addition to academic and religious programs of study, Won offers training in Eastern medicine. At Won Institute students may earn a master’s degree in: * Applied Meditation * Won Buddhist Studies * Acupuncture All of Won Institute’s programs integrate Buddhist meditation practice, which is governed by such precepts as mindfulness or awareness and compassion for all living beings. Therefore, those who are in the Acupuncture program learn medical treatments that are grounded in compassionate service and awareness of each patient’s individual needs. Students in the Acupuncture program also get to put their training into practice by providing acupuncture services at Won Institute’s public clinic. Won’s student life activities, which include meditation groups, Tai Chi practice and spiritual talks, are designed to support Buddhist practice as well as spiritual, mental and physical wellness. Those interested in attending one of Won Institute’s graduate level programs are encouraged to attend one of the open house events offered by their prospective department. Those planning to apply to the program in Won Buddhist Studies should have completed undergraduate courses in Won Buddhism. However, those who haven’t may enroll in pre-requisite courses either prior to or while enrolled in the graduate program. Requirements for the Applied Meditation and Acupuncture degrees may be obtained from an admissions representative, faculty or staff member. Won Institute participates in traditional federal financial aid programs, awarding grants and loans to students who have a demonstrated financial need and are not in default on a previous student loan. In addition to these federal aid programs, Won Institute awards a certain number of scholarships to cover or help cover tuition costs. Both full and part-time students may apply for scholarships and other types of aid.
