Swarthmore also places a high level of importance on discussion-based learning, maintaining small class sizes and an impressive student-to-faculty ratio of about 8:1. Student life at Swarthmore is remarkably diverse. In addition to special events like Screw Your Roommate and Pterodactyl Hunt, the school features a variety of student organizations and athletics. The college determines your ability to pay based on a combination of your expected contribution and your parents’ expected contribution. State and federal grants are the primary source of financial assistance, but roughly half of Swarthmore students also receive institutional scholarships.
