Green Mountain College

Green Mountain College is a progressive New England college in scenic Poultney, Vermont, that specializes in the environmental sciences. Green Mountain College also offers professional opportunities outside of class. All of Green Mountain College’s students take a set number of courses in the environmental sciences and liberal arts. Beyond these foundational courses, students may also major in environmental sciences and related fields. Examples of these majors include: * Adventure Education * Environmental Studies * Natural Resource Management * Sustainable Agriculture and Food Development * Sustainable Business Additional majors include: * Elementary Education * Fine Arts * English * Food and Hospitality Management * Sociology Green Mountain College also has progressive study options. These include independent study programs, self-designed majors and interdisciplinary majors. Green Mountain College offers practical work opportunities, as well, including internships and other service-learning projects outside of class. Students may also get involved in “green” clubs, and environmental organizations. There are also many opportunities to hike and do other outdoor activities in the nearby Adirondack and Green mountains. Green Mountain’s admissions requirements are also progressive. First of all, Green Mountain College does not require ACT or SAT scores. Also, while they consider an applicant’s GPA, they also consider extracurricular activities and special talents. Green Mountain College awards academic scholarships and scholarships for those who have demonstrated a commitment to the environment. Students may also apply for need-based federal awards like loans and grants. To apply for financial aid, applicants must submit a FAFSA.
