Gilbane Building Company began its roots in Providence, Rhode Island, as a small carpentry business owned by William Gilbane. After taking on his brother, Thomas F. Gilbane, as an apprentice carpenter, the brothers, along with William H. Gilbane, founded Gilbane Building Company in 1870. In over 150 years of operation, Gilbane Building Company has grown its family to more than 3,000 employees across more than 45 offices nationwide and globally. The company is part of the parent company GIlbane, Inc, and has positioned itself as a pioneer in the construction and real estate industries. GIlbane Building Company is dedicated to progressing the construction field in the areas of sustainable building practices, advanced technologies, innovation, and safety. Gilbane has an in-house Sustainability Council that works with the U.S Green Building Council and Green Building Certification Institute to earn its employees Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certifications, and has helped divert more than 90% of construction waste from landfills while completing more than 300 LEED approved buildings.
