The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is an international financial organization that is responsible for serving central banks in their pursuit of monetary and financial stability, fostering international cooperation in those areas, and acting as a bank for central banks. The bank is the world’s oldest international financial organization and it has 60 member central banks, representing countries from around the world that together make up about 95% of world GDP. Its customers are central banks and international organizations and it does not accept deposits from or provide financial services to private individuals or corporate entities.
