Successfully coordinated the development of a strategic, consistent programme of stakeholder management and engagement activity across the Parliamentary Labour Party (PLP) and local government, including the engagement plan for newly elected local Party Parliamentary candidates in the 2015 general election. Monitored and communicated Parliamentary Process and Legislative Agenda for the Leader of the Opposition (LOTO). Implemented new stakeholder consultation process with PLP on policy announcements. Devised and executed a range of key national print and online campaigns, ensuring excellent stakeholder management of, and engagement with, TUC’s 57 affiliates. Organised the logistics for TUC’s annual congress, major campaign events, and national demonstrations, including negotiation, buy-in and communication with affiliate unions, police, TFL and other external agencies. Communicated the TUC and its affiliates’ work on international development, monitoring and responding to policy developments accordingly, and carrying out lobbying and campaigning activities. Responsible for planning and managing the press, public affairs and policy and parliamentary campaigns for this university thinktank. Provided policy analysis and deputised for the Chief Executive at external meetings as necessary. Significantly increased million+’s presence in the media, securing coverage in industry publications and most major national newspapers. Tightened the brand identity and house style, including a website redesign and re-launch. Devised and implemented parliamentary campaigns strategy for university research funding allocation, which won significant concessions for member universities. Wrote and executed the public affairs campaign to reverse the government decision to cap student numbers. As Vice-President (Welfare) of the students’ union of Liverpool John Moores University I was responsible for the student services and welfare provision for 22,000 students. As well as leading on campaigns and representation I was a trustee of the union involved in management decisions and the day to day running of the students’ union.

NUS is the representative body for over 7m students studying in further and higher education in the UK. Comprising of 650 affiliated students’ unions, NUS has an annual turnover of £7m and 90 members of staff. The NUS president is the principal officer of the union and the key liaison for external work and partnerships. The president is the face of the student movement both in the media and at events. They are responsible for the political direction and strategy of the organisation and directly line manage the chief executive.
