Investigate workers’ compensation claims with minimal supervision. This position handles both lost time and medical only claims. Conduct interviews with injured employees, customers, store personnel and medical care providers within 24 hours of receiving reported incident. Maintain telephone contact with appropriate parties throughout life of file; Coordinate with doctor, injured employee and store personnel light duty return to work and monitor on a weekly basis; maintain and monitor medical care to ensure appropriateness of treatment; review medical reports and bills to verify applicability to claim; utilize professional experience and investigative skills to evaluate monetary exposure of claim; adhere to all department claim policy and procedures as set out in the procedure manual; control activities of service providers such as defense attorneys, medical case managers and private investigators to minimize claim expense and maximize results; develop and maintain a proactive strategic plan of action for the life of the file; maintain a working knowledge of multiple state workers’ compensation laws and statutes; assist assigned Distribution Center with return to work issues, safety programs and obtaining quality medical providers.

Provide impartial assistance to employees by remaining objective while conducting in-depth, internal investigations as it relates to demotion, final counseling or termination. Work to ensure policies and procedures are followed and that employment actions taken are consistent with Dollar General values. Strive to determine "what's right" rather than "who's right."

Analyze and report various EPDR data to identify employment trends and gaps in consistency in order to improve compliance and service levels. Periodically assist EPDR Manager with various aspects of investigations and/or project. Provide occasional administrative support for the EPDR Managers and Director. Conduct in-depth internal employment investigations on behalf of employees as it relates to demotion, final counseling or termination.

Open files for incoming charges of discrimination, wage & hour audits, demand letters and subpoenas; process additional information requests from outside counsel regarding litigation files being managed by the attorneys I supported; investigate and draft responses with regard to all Department of Labor audits as well as occasional charges of discrimination from federal or state commissions and various other matters; stay familiar with employment laws and Dollar General policy; support multiple attorneys with general clerical needs; answer general Legal Department telephone calls to assess the needs of callers; provide limited support to General Counsel.

Served as a back-up to multiple Legal Assistants; maintained a schedule of expected absences and ensured each Legal Assistant had a temporary employee assigned during the requested time; assisted the Librarian, Event Planner and File Clerk on days without desk assignments.

Showed office space to potential tenants; processed new leases and monitored existing leases for renewals; processed utility payments; addressed maintenance needs within the building.
