Terry "Race" Workman is an environmental geologist, hydrogeologist, geoarchaeologist, and geomorphologist currently serving as a Project Geoarchaeologist with Applied Archaeological Research, Inc based in Portland, Oregon (40 Hr HAZWOPER certified). Race previously acted as a Geoarchaeology Field Director for Historical Research Associates, Inc. (Portland, OR) as well as for Gray & Pape Inc., a cultural resources firm based out of Cincinnati, Ohio. Race also served as the geoarchaeologist/geomorphologist for the Körös Regional Archaeological Project in Vésztő, Hungary, excavating Late Neolithic-Early Copper Age agricultural settlements on the Great Hungarian Plain. Race obtained his Master of Science degree in Geology from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio (2012) and is currently finishing his PhD in Geomorphology. For his graduate work he has spent four field seasons reconstructing the climate for Paleoindian archaeological sites in the Atacama Desert of Chile. His climate reconstructions were based on a plethora of proxies ranging from geomorphological reconstruction of lithofacies in an adjoining fluvial drainage to the analysis of paleowetland deposits and paleobotany of an adjoining paleowetland. Race obtained his B.A. with honors in Geoarchaeology from the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio (2010). His undergraduate thesis work involved the retrieval and analysis of sediment cores taken from post-glacial lakes on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. For this project Race spent several months in Alaska retrieving the cores, analyzing them in the lab, and writing up the results of the climate reconstruction.Race also has a plethora of field experience taking environmental samples (soil/water), surveying sites, and performing archaeological fieldwork. Race ran Miami University’s radiocarbon pretreatment lab (2010-2012), where he personally pretreated samples, combusted them into CO2, purified them cryogenically, and turned them into graphite targets via catalytic reduction of CO2, for AMS radiocarbon dating. His strong background in the geosciences coupled with a wide range of analytical and technical skills in an array of fields would serve as an asset to any project that he undertakes.
