Work at MagneSensors covered all aspects of research and development of sophisticated magnetic detection systems, including engineering, experiment design, data analysis, prototype assembly, 3D modeling, and preparation of project documentation. Dr. Nielsen was a key member of a team developing a novel SQUID Magnetic Bio-assay system and was the project leader on a project for a portable SQUID NDE system delivered to NASA for the detection of sub-surface cracks in aircraft parts.

Continuing leadership role(s) following Physical Optics Corporation acquisition by Mercury Systems. Built the Program Management office (staff, procedures, etc.) from scratch.

Responsible for all R&D within WFS's Defense subsidiary in the United States. WFS is a world leader in underwater and underground low frequency RF and electromagnetic communications, sensing, and navigation technology. We serve the defense, oil & gas, and environmental industrial markets. With U.S. offices in Washington DC and Houston TX, WFS is headquartered near Edinburgh UK. WFS’s disruptive communications and sensing products extend the reach of conventional communications, telemetry, control systems and sensor networks; all resulting in significant cost savings, increased flexibility, and new frontiers of operational capability. Selected to start and grow new R&D facility in the U.S. for new programs, product support, maintenance, and repairs. Oversaw all business development and customer relationship management for academic institutions and government agencies. Performed both local and international remote program and project management on a variety of technology development areas.

Key skills include: Technical and business leadership, technical marketing and customer engagement, budget projections, spending tracking, global long term and short term planning, staffing and personnel management, technology transfer to manufacturing, New Product Introduction (NPI) Focused on leading all the technical aspects of QuasarGeo’s electromagnetic applications in his role as Chief Technology Officer. Lead scientist and is co-inventor of the core QuasarGeo instrumentation technology. Personally responsible for nearly $250k in sales and laid the groundwork for potential multi-million dollar sales of the QMax EM3 instrument. Work at QuasarGeo and its parent company – Quasar Federal Systems – centered on the development of EM sensor technologies for a variety of different applications.

Leading a diverse group of scientists and engineers in the development of ideas in research and product development for a variety of government and commercial customers. Technical focus areas include RF engineering, electronic warfare, x-ray NDE systems,surveillance and sensor systems, deep learning and contextual software systems. Responsible for annual and five year strategic and financial planning for the division, as well as technical staffing, internal and external customer interaction, and program execution.
