Senior Sql Server Dba\Senior Bi Specialist
Six weeks in and feeling good. Strong, diverse team with a good leader. Lots of work on everything from straight etl to R development to some classic dba stuff. In other words, a great fit for me 😃So the above was from early July 2016, which feels like several lifetimes ago. Since then, our primary DBA left for greener pastures, I took over the major portion of managing the transition from SQL 2005 and 2008 clusters to SQL 2014 Always On Availability Groups. Add to that day to day dba tasks for the first time in a few years, and I was a bit out of my comfort zone. All's well that ends well as our migration went live in mid October and we've brought back a very talented dba to the team recently. I still get to play with things like TDE and column level encryption, so my dba skills have progressed a great deal in the past six months. I'm looking forward to getting back into the BI side as we're planning to move to SQL 2016 with our SSRS and SSIS servers soon. I'm very happy to be part of a great team here. Update #3It's almost time for the celebrated rat to look for its shadow, and life is still pretty damn good for me. I'm doing a little more on the analytics side and starting to be part of projects that help get our finance teams out of Excel. Learning more and more everyday about the ins and outs of always on availability groups. Had a hiccup last weekend when two independent nodes decided to stop communicating with their respective domain controllers. Thankfully, their secondary nodes hadn't suffered a similar fate and a failover successfully mitigated any damage that would have occurred.

Performed POC for moving existing mutliple step SSIS package responsible for key overnight processing of entire loan business to Informatica. Also performed performance analysis and upgrades to current infrastructure, including SQL server performance upgrades.
Business Intelligence Specialist
It has been an interesting 14 months. Building and enhancing new and existing end-to-end data analytics solutions for a customized Dynamics AX 4.0 installation, pulling financial data from Enterovision hosted on Oracle, to pulling gas and oil prices from OPIS, Platts, CME, THEICE, and bank of Canada for an automated upload process into a Rich Gas Management System. In addition, I've created an automated process to use an Excel plugin called Uniformance to automate reporting from Honeywell products.
