Process EngineerBp Research And Technology Centre Jun 2008 - Jun 2009London, England, GbI spent the first six months of my industrial placement working on the design phase of a Pilot Plant Project for BP’s Research and Technology Centre. I was given the principle responsibility of managing the design of key areas of the project such as the feed and analysis systems. This required rational thinking as well as the ability to test the original assumptions and coordinate with specialist engineers to refine the process design. In conjunction with this, I was a principal member of the Green Manufacturing Team driving environmental initiatives on site as well as chairing meetings.The second six months of my industrial placement took me onto the construction and operation phase of one of BP’s key research projects. As a valued member of this project team, I was eventually given the principal responsibility of planning, coordinating and supervising the first plant Turn-A-Round to carry out key design changes to the pilot plant. The task required highly logical thinking and the ability to liaise with shift and operating staff alike combined with leadership, influencing and communicating skills when chairing meetings of the shutdown committee.
