The National Conference of State Legislatures is the nation’s premier bipartisan organization serving the legislators and staffs of the nation's 50 states, its commonwealths and territories. NCSL provides research, technical assistance and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on the most pressing state issues. The leadership of NCSL is composed of legislators and staff from across the country. NCSL is an effective and respected advocate for the interests of state governments before Congress and federal agencies.As director of NCSL's health program, I lead the vision and direction of NCSL's efforts on all health policy issues. Our team of 20 supports state legislators and legislative staff by providing educational opportunities and producing timely publications and legislation tracking. While working in the Immigration Health Services Department, I learned about the health care system from a unique perspective. I worked with members of the US Public Health Service Corps to ensure that mechanisms were in place to assist immigration health facilities with accreditation. I also assisted with updating the TB safety manual for employees by researching and communicating with individuals on the ground that were directly impacted by these manuals.I also managed and coordinated the ICE Career Connections Mentoring Program. I designed focus groups and an implementation plan for a new alumni program. I also coordinated with outside vendors for participants for events such as webinars, courses, and seminars. Show less
