Implemented a browser interface and server side code using JDK 1.1.7 and Swing components. Browser accepted database search criteria from a user, requested a search on the server, then periodically polled the server until results were made available. Used JDBC components on JavaWebServer to interface to IBM DB2. Project is being deployed in a county clerk’s office for document retrieval and display. * for team of five software engineers. Evaluated several vendor's systems to decide on a suitable system for developing and testing software to be used in embedded systems. Worked with electrical and mechanical engineers to arrive at a suitable system design for antenna. Designed and coded software for a satellite tracker using a 68030 microprocessor in combination with VME I/O boards to control the antenna servos and peripheral equipment. Designed additional software to run on a SunOS VME system to do satellite position prediction and to control automated setup of the equipment attached to the antenna system. Working as a contractor through Volt. Implemented an application to take high speed data from a mass spectrometer, perform data analysis and forward to another system. Multi-threaded application on a PC running Ubuntu Linux. Redesign and upgrade an existing C application to control the innards of a mass spectrometer. New design is C++, multi-threaded running on Slackware Linux. Application controls multiple devices to precisely control conditions during LC/GC spectrometer experiments. All work done using Eclipse C++ development environment on Linux. Due to Agilent management policies, this contract will end 9/2013.

* Design and implement software for embedded processors in an infrared airborne surveillance system. * Wrote chip level device drivers for a vxWorks 6.8 based PowerPC 8544 system. Interfaces were for MilStd 1553B (Data Device Corp BU-655xx), Arinc 429 (Data Device Corp), RS232/422, CAN (Microchip). Also developed I2C interface to clock chip. * Wrote system modules to handle translating external communications protocols (MilStd 1553B, NMEA, Ethernet, etc) to data usable by internal programs. * Wrote test and debug code using Visual C++ on Windows. * Upgraded older products to use current Netscape servers. Converted and enhanced applications from a collection of PERL and shell scripts to Java. The applications were used to display status of telephone company equipment and to aid telco technicians and system administrators in making connections from Solaris based systems to legacy applications on other systems. This software is currently deployed in several Pacific Bell Network Operation Centers. Participated in an effort to develop an IP telephony gateway. Acquired two sets of boards from Natural Microsystems, two PBXs and a T-1 connection to prove the feasibility of building a gateway with high enough port density to make a gateway marketable. After two months of effort we had a running system that would make connections from one PBX to another via the IP connection, make connections from a PBX, telephone across the IP connection and out the T-1 connection, and make connections from a PC running NetMeeting to a telephone (PBX or T-1). Project was canceled at this point due to a lack of funding.
