Manage day-to-day operations

Business: Manufacture of Automated Fuel Management Systems for retail and fleet fueling markets.; 1987 to 2010Chairman of the Board - 1988 to 2010I was responsible for the overall management of a company that grew by over 400% in sales during a period of 20 years and operated at a profit in 15 of those years. Under a license agreement with Texas Instruments, I led the development of an RFID based fueling system that automatically records vehicle ID, mileage and engine hours as well as the quantity of fuel dispensed when the hose is inserted into the fuel tank. I prepared over $5,000,000 in successful bids to transit authorities and government agencies for RFID based fuel systems.

Business: Manufacture of industrial computed tomography systems (CT or CAT scanners), tomographic scanning services, and contract research and development.; I led the development of the first company product (an industrial CT system), and negotiated the first commercial sale of an industrial CT system to the Kennedy Space Center. A similar system was sold to General Motors for dimensional analysis and flaw detection in molds and castings. I raised working capital equity through a $1,000,000 private placement and a $4,600,000 public stock offering. I increased annual revenues from $100,000 in Fiscal 1982 to $3,000,000 in Fiscal 1986.

I established systems and procedures for new product planning and specification, design engineering, cost estimation and pricing, documentation, purchasing, inventory control, scheduling, performance testing, and quality control.I successfully completed a technology development project funded by a $1,200,000 R & D Limited Partnership. The company was awarded a patent in 1987 for on-line measurement of wall thickness and detection of flaws in hot seamless pipe through limited angle tomography. The patent has been cited in 49 subsequent patents.

I led the generation of ten new products over a five year period which accounted for 80% of sales during Fiscal 1981. I served as project manager on a joint venture with a major chemical company to develop a product based on a patented new technique for evaluating thermally hazardous chemicals, then served as product marketing manager during first year of new product life. The Accelerating Rate Calorimeter accounted for 25% of sales during Fiscal 1981 and produced $200,000 in royalties for the venture partner.

I was responsible for procurement and management of contracts with industry and government to perform research and development, to provide analytical services, and to build custom-made instruments.

I received clinical training for board certification in medical physics. I also performed research on accelerator production of isotopes, radiation therapy with pions, and diagnostic radiology with muons in collaboration with Rice University.

I taught undergraduate atomic and nuclear physics, served as Director of the Cyclotron Laboratory, and was advisor to five graduate students.

I participated in design of an air bearing computer drum, development of diagnostic software for airborne computer radar, analysis of the tracking capability of pulsed-Doppler radar, and application of decision theory to satellite identification on a six month rotation program.
