ZCAHRD has been working with partners in the Southern Province of Zambia, as a means of scaling up and integrating Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission services in health facilities in the region. The BU PMTCT Integration Project presently covers 192 health facilities in eight districts in the Southern Province. My internship was focused on monitoring and evaluation of the project's success in the region and scaling up community sensitization and male involvement in accordance with the project's objectives.

I provided basic life support in emergency situations, including providing comfort and transportation. I also assisted in advanced life support measures as necessary, and ensured complete and proper documentation of all findings and interventions into computer database using EMSCharts.

I organized data from internal databases in support of implementing changes in legislature, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/Automatic External Defibrillator public awareness intervention programs. I also analyzed results from literature and other successful intervention programs as frameworks for potential model for intervention strategies in the Boston area.

My main responsibilities included analyzing and reporting on data obtained from designated trauma centers and participating EMS agencies, as a means to improve patient care and the wellness of Arizonans. Routine tasks included data manipulation and analysis in SAS and Microsoft Excel, linking to outcome data, technical report writing, participation in trauma research efforts, and presentation of findings to internal and external stakeholders.

I researched, compiled, and organized information from internal records pertinent to D.E.U. responses in preparation for database entry, and also maintained department website with latest information on responses and inter-agency partnerships.

The ART/ANC Pilot Project under ZCAHRD's BU PMTCT Integration Project has targeted 6 initial health facilities in the Southern Province of Zambia, and was in the process of scaling up to four additional sites during my employment. My responsibilities included local oversight of the scale-up process, and logistical/data oversight in the process of following-up on clients in these facilities from first antenatal booking to 18 months after delivery, and supervision of the integration of ART services in the antenatal clinical care setting.

I was primarily responsible for compiling and analyzing healthcare data for a Community Health Profile report for each Tribe in the Phoenix and Tucson IHS service areas. These reports integrate U.S. Census, IHS, and state data resources to provide Tribes with a snapshot of the overall health in their communities. I also provided technical assistance to Tribal Health Departments as needed, including data analysis and training.
