I was proud to be re-selected as Labour's candidate for Harrogate and Knaresborough for the 2019 General Election.

I was selected to stand as Labour’s parliamentary candidate in the constituency for the 2017 snap general election. Following an intensive 6 week campaign, we more than doubled Labour’s share of the vote from the previous election, winning more than 11,000 votes.

The National Executive Council’s role is to provide strategic political leadership for NUS. As a Councillor, I had two specific roles that were important to the scrutiny and direction of the political leadership. These were consulting with students’ unions and scrutinising reports made by full-time NUS officers.

GiftScribes started in 2007 as two stalls in separate retail centres selling personalised Christmas decorations. I took a seasonal job to operate the stall in the White Rose Centre alongside the company's founders. During this time I was responsible for cashing up, stock checks, personalising ornaments and sales. I was re-employed when the stall returned the following Christmas, between October 2008 and January 2009.

Joined the company as a Trainee Case Handler and quickly learnt how to handle mortgage complaints for Lloyds Banking Group. In September 2013 I became proficient in dealing with HBOS personal loan complaints and was promoted to Subject Matter Expert (SME). In this role I supported my colleagues by answering technical questions or by providing one to one assistance on particularly challenging cases. In January 2014, I was promoted to Senior Case Handler which came with extra responsibilities, including the delivery of training to groups of new and existing Capita employees. During my time with the company I made a significant contribution to the creation of a new training process delivered by the Customer Preparation Team (CPT) to support newly recruited Trainee Case Handlers during their three month probationary period.

The Board of Governors, known as The Council, is the University of Leeds' trustee board. Governors have a collective responsibility to promote the wellbeing of the University, meet the obligations placed on it as an exempt charity and ensure its sustainability. As a governor, it was my joint responsibility to oversee corporate strategy, make key business decisions for the University, as well as monitor institutional and executive performance.

Neco's Chocolate is a confectionary business located in the White Rose Shopping Centre, Leeds. It includes three stalls located throughout the centre, one specialising in chocolate, one in ice cream and one in sweets. During my time there, I was first responsible for the management of the sweet stall, before learning to operate and manage the others. My responsibilities included cashing up, stock checks, managing staff hours and sales. Towards the end of my employment, I took full responsibility for all aspects of the business during the owners holidays.

Leeds University Union (LUU) is a sector leading charity with an annual turnover of £13 million. It employs over 500 people and is on a mission to make sure that all of its 30,000 student members love their time at Leeds. I was one of six elected officers that led LUU. Each officer had their own portfolio of work and assigned duties; though a core responsibility common to all six roles was to ensure that all of LUU's activities were carried out to serve the best interests of students. I chaired the Board of Trustees and the Executive Officer Group. My other responsibilities included overseeing the Union's finances, strategy, governance and democratic structures as well as acting as the spokesperson.

How much you achieve in life should not be determined by how much your parents earn. Yet in the UK, it too often is. Educational disadvantage remains one of the most destructive and pervasive problems in the UK, perpetuating inequality and confining thousands of young people up and down the country to a life of un-realised potential. We believe in the power of education to change this. We are an education charity working with like-minded partners towards a day where no child's educational success is limited by their socio-economic background.
