Designed and implemented system to operate an eCommerce platform. The platform consisted of various sub-systems such as a product catalog storing millions of products, a flexible pricing system, a CRM, an order management application, a purchasing system, etc.Product data was aggregated from various suppliers and refined with machine learning techniques as well as manual intervention. A smart, distributed crawling system was implemented to retrieve product information from various sources. A DSL framework was designed to facilitate data extraction and data cleansing.A website was developed to deliver the product catalog over the web. Given the large amount of products, the website had to be optimized with caching and denormalization. Certain product categories called for advanced faceted search features leading us to take information retrieval to the limits. State of the art UX techniques were applied to streamline the checkout process with the goal of improving usability and conversion.Recently, we moved part of our website infrastructure to the cloud allowing us to eliminate our use of a co-location facility. A well partitioned architecture provided for a straightforward switch.Overall, various technologies and methodologies were employed in order to attain our goals. These included information retrieval document databases, event sourcing, and CQRS. The architecture was event-driven to allow decoupled integration and real-time feedback and reporting. Domain-Driven Design was utilized to facilitate transformation of a model to implementation. Most recently, I've introduced functional programming and thinking to the team with positive results.

Designed websites, graphics and custom software for clients as well as serving as technical editor on books. Responsibilities included interaction with clients and relationship management as well as the design and implementation of the required software and graphics.A large aspect of the process was determining the optimal approach to development to best align with business requirements. This called for both technical as well as interpersonal abilities and business savvy.The technical platform was largely *nix based and with use of various open source and web technologies as well as enterprise software.
