Through my volunteerism in Ambassadors, I was one of the chosen few to be promoted as a tour guide after only being active in the group for a semester. Once finished with the rigorous training I was sent out to be a representative of the school. For most families I meet, I am the first face they connect with at Marist. My job is not only to introduce them to the opportunities at the school, but to also show them the student life. A tour can almost be seen as a sales pitch. It is your goal to convince the consumer that Marist is the right school for them. It can often be difficult because it is an investment followed by immense competition, but the challenges are what make it interesting. Every tour I give also has to be personalized to the wants and needs of the group. Using original ideas and creative tactics this comes at ease. If a group were to have a bad tour, that can alter their view of the school and ultimately affect the decision in the end. My goal is to make the students feel that Marist is the right place for them, like I did when I first came for my tour four years ago.

My main responsibilities were assisting in the sale of beach passes, filling out financial paperwork and working evenings during concert season. Living on Long Island, beach passes are a must for the summer. This causes a huge fluctuation in sales at the beginning of the season. It was my responsibility, to make sure every customer was being helped in a timely manner. It was also crucial to input your sale correctly once you were finished since there were different prices for different passes. These sales would then be checked after closing, to double check that the money matches the paperwork. I was tasked to fill out any bank deposit slips since our money was always brought to the bank at the end of the week. This would ensure minimal amounts of money would be left on sight at a time. During the evenings I would assist in helping security and making sure the park was spotless. Hundreds of locals would come out to watch the concerts and it was my responsibility as park staff to make sure they were happy and enjoying their night. This job taught me how to appropriately deal with irate customers, treating everyone with equal respect and learning at a young age the basis of financial reporting.
