Worked as front desk manager/receptionist at Wooduck Boomerang Backpackers. The main role was the day to day running of this very busy hostel in the centre of Sydney. I welcomed visitors from around the world, taking bookings online and by telephone, booking them in and ensuring they had a pleasant stay. Ah hoc duties, included banking, grocery shopping, tour booking, offering advice and information of the local area and life in general.

In my previous post at BBC Information I dealt with enquiries, requests for information, complaints and comments about all aspects of BBC programmes and services. I worked extensively with online resources including Capita’s Intranet, BBC Gateway, the in house database, BBCQ, which was an invaluable source of reference for information about programmes on the BBC. I also made extensive use of the Internet, including BBCi and the major search engines. Replies to viewers were composed using Microsoft word and also an email system called Amacis. Excellent written communication skills were essential for this post, as well research, investigation and also comprehension skills and of course customer service skills. The ability to organise and prioritise work was also very important to meet daily targets.

Currently working for a very busy tour operator in a brand new department which opened in August 2016. I research and cost tailor made trips which can include travel in Asia, Australia, New Zealand, South Pacific islands and USA. I work directly with other tour operators and hotels. Flight costs are calculated using Cat35 as well as a variety of published airlines fares. In this role I am working with agents rather than selling direct to the public.

The ability to assimilate large amounts of complex information whilst paying close attention to accuracy and detail is essential.
