My current research interests are terahertz (THz) generation with Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCLs) and the study of 2D materials such as graphene with scattering scanning near-field optical microscopy (s-SNOM). My goals are to explore the possibilities of QCL passive mode-locking and to develop practical device applications based on 2D materials for THz applications. In the past, my research experiences are based on the use of parallel-plate waveguides for novel THz applications such as sensors, filters, and couplers. Typically these devices are enabled by incorporating other structures into the waveguide such as a rectangular groove for a high-Q resonant cavity sensor or an array of sub-wavelength apertures as a tunable narrowband filter by exploitation of extraordinary optical transmission (EOT). I also have a strong interest in excellent teaching and learning practices as well as effective communication skills.
