Conducted research and presented reports on comparative child rights issues in India and America, focusing on the disparate treatment of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and juvenile delinquency issues. Attended training at National Law School of India and received a certificate in Indian law.

Supervised a dorm of ten girls, aged 11-17; facilitated activities and outings. Assisted residents coping with emotional and mental trauma in a therapeutic and productive manner. Attended monthly trainings regarding various issues facing youth in foster care.

Assisted pro per litigants with various family law issues, focusing on domestic violence proceedings. Supervised legal interns and coordinated weekly legal advice clinic for low-income family law litigants.

Mediated actions filed in the Small Claims Division at San Francisco Superior Court. Facilitated productive dialogue between the plaintiff and defendant so that they were able to come to a mutually acceptable settlement agreement as an alternative to trial. Drafted legally binding settlement agreements post-mediation that reflected the intent of the parties.

* Researched and analyzed past Haitian compliance reports. Synthesized information and drafted recommendations to the United Nations Human Rights Committee regarding Haiti’s current compliance with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Focused on children’s rights, Haiti's cholera epidemic, prison conditions and pre-trial detentions.

Represented minor children, non-minor dependents and parents in dependency proceedings from detention to contested jurisdiction/disposition. Assisted clients in securing subsidized housing and public benefits. Summarized discovery and interviewed witnesses in preparation for trial. Conducted client home visits and drafted court pleadings outlining best interests of minor clients.

Conducted client intakes, prepared and filed applications for domestic violence restraining orders for in pro per clients. Explained restraining orders procedures, notice, and service of process to clients. Supported clients throughout the process. Researched various family law and domestic violence prevention issues; drafted related memoranda.

* Gathered evidentiary documents of continuous presence in the US, drafted and processed applications for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). * Conducted research and revised a foster youth rights handbook, with a focus on integrating statutory amendments promulgated by AB 12 and AB 1909. Reviewed and amended judicial council forms regarding educational rights in anticipation of 2014 adoption. Amended FosterEd online training modules for caregivers and educational surrogates; Conducted legal research and replied to education questions posted on the FosterEd forum.

* Interviewed clients and/or caregivers and made appearances in Juvenile Dependency court hearings from detention to termination; Relayed concerns and needs of clients at those hearings. Conducted legal research and prepared related memoranda regarding guardianship and adoption under interstate compact for the placement of children, good cause for continuance of jurisdiction and disposition hearings, renewal of juvenile dependency restraining orders and admissibility of evidence of the likelihood of recidivism by abusers.

* Analyzed statutory requirements under California Civil Code Section 527.6 and drafted recommendations to grant or deny temporary restraining orders for civil harassment. Met weekly with Judge Sullivan and discussed recommendations.
