I was Military Attache to the Governor General of New Zealand, accompanying him on public engagements, ensuring his welfare and that his diary ran to schedule. The role required comprehensive organisational ability, diplomacy, and an ability to discuss a wide range of topics and current events with the full spectrum of New Zealand society and the diplomatic corps. During my time in this role, we travelled at least three times a week, including to all the Pacific Islands in the New Zealand Protectorate. This has been the best job I have held to date, living in Government House and seeing a side of New Zealand most Kiwi’s will never have the privilege to. Show less

As one of the in-house designers for a small business, I was responsible for branding; assembling images and typography for the design and maintenance of our corporate identity. I primarily created work for published media including brochures, packaging, the company 'look-book' and a wide range of advertising. I was also responsible for typesetting, illustration and user interface for the company website. My core responsibility was to present information in a way that was both accessible and memorable. This role required an ability to solve visual communication challenges by identifying the communications issues we had with our customer, gathering and analysing information related to the issues, and generating approaches aimed at solving the problem. It required a thorough understanding of production and rendering methods; drawing, offset printing, photography, and time-based and interactive media - including color management in different media platforms. As Principal Advisor at the Rescue Coordination Centre I am responsible for leading high value, complex, strategic programmes of work which hold key strategic function as a part of NZ’s national SAR response and safety capability. I also contribute to New Zealand's national Maritime Incident Response and support business planning and policy development.

As a logistics officer in the New Zealand Army I was responsible for providing strategic, operational, or tactical level logistical support and managing the overall logistic processes in support of mission objectives; leveraging existing networks and expanding others; anticipating mission requirements and operational requirements and offering alternatives and advice, and evaluating, redesigning and implementing logistics processes for mission support. I have been stationed on military bases throughout New Zealand and deployed as an active part of our field Army to Afghanistan, East Timor and Australia both in support of international kinetic activity and on humanitarian assistance missions. I have also lived for a year in Lebanon in support of the United Nations. The role required management and organisational strength, as well as a strong understanding of people networks and how to lead through adversity. It is difficult to put into words the breadth of experience I had over an 22 year career with defence, but it was varied and often exciting. Show less
