This position ran concurrently with my post at the Robinson Library during the University vacations. This was a permanent “temporary” position which began after the closure of ExploreMusic. Based within the Reference Library at Gateshead Central Library. My role was to provide support to our researchers. I had to quickly process each patron’s enquiry and decide which resources from the library collection best fulfill their needs. I provided assistance in the search for and acquisition of such material, provide training to enable materials to be used successfully. I also added information to the library website and had responsibility for the upkeep and promotion of primary resources held within library collections and assist in the delivery of webskills workshops. I share responsibility for the management and development of services and staff within an award winning University library. Duties are extremely varied and include the supervision of circulation enquiries, whether they arrive via our online LibraryHelp or in person at the Service Desk; providing assistance and training to students and academic staff with bibliographic, reference and subject enquiries; the management of library assistants, and overseeing, developing and marketing new services.

This position ran concurrently with my post at the Robinson Library. I ran a programme of arts and NewcastleGateshead Quayside and visitors to Gateshead Visitor Centre. I was responsible for developing informal and curriculum based learning opportunities by introducing multidisciplinary activities such as art, music and science. I liaised with schools, community groups, universities and members of the public in order to arrange and deliver lectures, presentations, teaching workshops and support material for the educational needs of the visitor. This position runs concurrently with my post at The Robinson Library during the University teaching weeks. The Support Worker Service has been established in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) Part IV, to ensure equal access for disabled students. I support students through a combination of notes taking in lectures and seminars, providing educational personal assistance (including library research) exam reading and scribing.

This post ran concurrently with my position at the Robinson Library during the University Summer vacations. It is my role to carry out the day to day operation and supervision of a library within North Tyneside borough, depending on staff shortages. The Libraries in North Tyneside are the first point of contact for public access to council as well as library services and I have to undertake a large range of tasks that met the individual needs of our customers and the delivery of a quality service whilst maintaining a high level of customer care. I was soon identifies as an IT and tech expert so my role developed into that of proactively supporting customers in using ICT applications and software by hosting one to one taster sessions.
