As Managing Director, I lead the Climate Intelligence Program which is focused on driving the legitimate differentiation of climate performance within material and energy industries and along their associated value chains. We do this by tapping into RMI's unique change model focused on 1)providing thought leadership, 2) designing/implementing demonstration projects, and 3)grow our impact through activating and shaping the market. As a program we focus on 1) Enhanced Emissions Visibility via an open-source emissions data platform that draws on advanced technologies including satellites, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, 2) Advanced Carbon Accounting Systems that attribute emissions at various levels (corporate, facility, asset, product etc.), 3) Standards and Marketplaces that allow us to differentiate the emissions intensity of raw materials, goods, and services, and 4) Digital infrastructure and Exchanges for tracing, valuing, and transacting these differentiated goods and services.

Josh Henretig is a Sr. Director for Microsoft and is responsible for leading the AI for Earth and Corporate Sustainability programs for the company. In this role, Josh oversees the management and implementation of global initiatives that: 1) reduce the energy, carbon, water and waste related impacts of Microsoft’s operations, 2) puts Microsoft’s cloud and AI tools in the hands of people and organizations working to solve global environmental challenges, and 3) enables the company to be a leader, collaborator and innovator on key environmental issues. Josh has been at Microsoft for 16 years and has played a leading role in the design and execution of the company’s global environmental strategy since the program’s inception. Most recently, he helped establish the AI for Earth program which was funded with $50 million and a 5-year commitment from Microsoft President Brad Smith in December 2017.Over the years, Josh has contributed to all aspects of Microsoft’s environmental strategy, from establishing the company’s commitment to carbon neutrality and 100% renewable energy through an internal price on carbon, to working with industry partners like Ecolab to create data-driven tools like the Water Risk Monetizer that help businesses to incorporate water-related risks into decision making, to developing (and launching) the AI for Earth program to assist organizations in leveraging AI to monitor, model and manage Earth’s natural systems.

As Sr Director of Environmental Sustainability for Microsoft I'm responsible for helping define, implement and communicate the global environmental strategy for the company. I've found success translating corporate insights and experiences with sustainability into scalable business practices that result in reducing the company’s environmental footprint and showcasing the role technology plays in enabling people and organizations around the world reduce their impact on the environment. I've spent a significant amount of time working with Microsoft business groups and international subsidiaries to embed environmental strategies and policies into their core business to achieve positive business and societal impact.
