Work with the US based FHI 360 SBC team to provide ongoing technical support to the Feed the Future Ethiopia Community Nutrition Activity and other countries for social and behavior change and community engagement.

Responsible for startup operations for the USAID-funded Feed the Future Ethiopia Community Nutrition Activity in Ethiopia. Current role is Senior SBC Advisor based from the US. Activity focus is on enhancing maternal and child nutrition through strategic social and behavior change, health systems strengthening, private and public sector engagement, emergency preparedness and response, gender equality and social inclusion, and implementation through local non-governmental and community-based organizations. Facilitate hiring of key personnel and office set up, onboarding of local implementing partners, preparation of annual workplans and quarterly reports, and coordination with stakeholders and partners. Five-year budget is approximately $69,000,000.

Breakthrough ACTION (BA) is USAID’s flagship project for social and behavior change (SBC) worldwide. COP for Breakthrough ACTION operations in Niger and Burkina Faso featuring SBC capacity strengthening, community engagement and empowerment, behavioral economics, campaign design and launch, community radio, formative research and provider behavior change. Activities included: Sahel RISE II (SBC capacity strengthening, for the MOH and Resilience Food Security Activity partners); West Africa Breakthrough ACTION (WABA: regional project promoting reproductive health and family planning (RH/FP); WABA+ (community engagement and provider behavior change interventions to improve FP/RH); President’s Malaria Initiative (strengthening national and community level SBC to combat malaria); Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA: strengthening risk communication and community engagement for emerging diseases in Niger); and COVID-VAX (SBC to promote COVID-19 vaccinations).

Provided remote support for health promotion and behavior change communication to USAID/Madagascar's Health, Population and Nutrition (HPN) Office. Technical focus areas included family planning/reproductive health, maternal and child health, nutrition, water and sanitation, and malaria prevention and control. Facilitated coordination and provided technical advice on strategic behavior change approaches, mass media campaigns and community health innovations for five large USAID multi-year grants and contracts.

Chief of Party for USAID's flagship project for social and behavior change communication in Ghana. Managed and mentored 15 staff and oversaw budget of $18M including over $2.7M secured in cost share. Ensured program management and technical leadership including strategic initiatives, capacity building, annual work plans, assessments, budgets and reporting. Field operations came to an end in November 2019. Worked closely with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) Health Promotion Division to develop, implement and assess innovative capacity building initiatives to strengthen and bolster staff skills in evidence-based social and behavior change communication. Provided strategic direction and content for the GHS refreshed "Good Live, Live it Well" brand and mass media campaign featuring FP, WASH, nutrition, breastfeeding, maternal and child health and malaria. In partnership with the National Population Council and Farmhouse Productions produced and broadcast 3 seasons (39 episodes) of award-winning TV series for youth featuring adolescent sexual and reproductive health and responsibility - YOLO, You Only Live Once (watched in over 35 countries on YouTube).

Provided ongoing technical assistance in Social and Behavior Change Communication to USAID-funded programs addressing malaria, nutrition, HIV/AIDS, FP/RH, WASH and other public health issues in Sub-Saharan Africa. Interim COP for the USAID-funded Continuum of Prevention, Care and Treatment (CoPCT) of HIV/AIDS with most at-risk Populations (CHAMP) project in Cameroon.

Chief of Party for the NetWorks project in Senegal. Established and managed the JHU∙CCP office in Dakar. Oversaw all technical and operational aspects for this malaria prevention project which featured work with the National Malaria Control Program and partners to build sustainable systems for continued access and use of long-lasting insecticide-treated nets (LLINs). Managed and mentored a team of 23 full and part time employees and a budget of $6.7 million.

Senior Behavior Change Communication Advisor providing technical leadership and strategic direction on multiple projects in Africa and Asia including LINKAGES (2003 - 2005), BASICS III (2005 - 2009), and T-MARC in Tanzania (2009). Responsibilities included program assessments, strategic program design and delivery, qualitative research, workshop facilitation and capacity building, and development of national policies, guidelines and tools.

Chief of Party for the LINKAGES country office in Accra. Provided strategic direction and technical / managerial oversight to a team of seven local staff and short-term consultants. Project priority areas included timely initiation of breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding, infant and young child feeding and maternal nutrition.DHS results show that nationally, timely initiation of breastfeeding (TIBF) rose from 25% in 1998 to 46% in 2003. Among the three northern regions where IYCF was actively promoted by LINKAGES and partners, the TIBF rate increased from 19% in 1998 to 57% in 2003.

Managed the technical and administrative aspects of the country office's health and education portfolio in Niamey which included four main projects funded by USAID and DFID and sub-offices in Zinder and Agadez.

Provided technical and managerial guidance to CARE country offices for family planning / reproductive health / health communication to establish this new programming area as a strong and credible sector for the organization.Wrote and secured a grant for $800,000 from the Mellon Foundation that launched CARE's Reproductive Health for Refugees Initiative.

Behavior Change Communication Advisor for a USAID-funded child survival project with Harvard University to restructure and significantly improve the quality of primary health care delivery systems in Cameroon. Core program elements included drug management, supportive supervision, the health management information system (HMIS), and community participation through local health and management committees.

Directed a USAID-funded health communication research and development project that applied principles of social marketing, ethnomedicine, and behavior analysis to promote positive child care practices. Worked with local counterparts to design and implement a comprehensive health communication project featuring interpersonal, print, mass, and traditional media channels.

Designed, implemented, and monitored health communication projects in Francophone Africa and Haiti with Ministries of Health counterparts to build awareness and pioneer the promotion of family planning and reproductive health.
