Actelis Networks is a leading provider of broadband access and Ethernet networking solutions for carriers and enterprise customers. I started there as a Technology Consultant (4/2006-11/2006), then became VP for Science & Technology (12/2006-5/2007) and finally CTO (6/2007-11/2012), heading the Advanced Technology Team. In November 2009 I also took over R&D, which designed and built all of the company's products, and in September 2011 I also took over Product Management.• Headed a team of 40-60 hardware, software, and test engineers, as well as product managers across multiple continents, with the majority of the team located in Israel (which I visited 30 times and loved it, especially when I could make the time to also visit Jerusalem)• Guided this team through several up-and-down cycles, preserving core expertise during contractions and prioritizing talent over numbers during expansions• Led the development of the first commercially available Ethernet access concentrator with platform-wide crosstalk cancellation (Dynamic Rate Boost or DRB)• Directed the development and on-time release of twelve (12) carrier-grade software releases, including EMS and NMS software packages• Planned and executed the corporate technology and intellectual property strategies• Key contributor to the VDSL2 Vectoring efforts at ITU-T, which resulted in the G.993.5 (G.vector) standard in September 2009• Traveled extensively for direct interactions with carriers and business partners in North America, Europe, Japan, and China

Voyan was a leading provider of real-time control software for semiconductor equipment and interference diagnosis and mitigation technology for DSL systems. For most of my tenure there, I was Chief Scientist (01/2000-10/2002); however, after a reorganization of the company in October 2002, I became President (10/2002-02/2003) until the company downsized to just a few people in February 2003. At Voyan we had an absolutely fantastic technical team that developed amazing technology, both in the semiconductor and communications areas; whenever I talked to one of my fellow engineers from Voyan, we always talk very fondly of our time there.• Directed the development of a novel software platform for automated trouble diagnosis of DSL networks• Led the algorithm development and software implementation of a patented method for modeling and optimization of semiconductor etch processes• Developed key elements of a patented crosstalk cancellation method for DSL receivers• Traveled extensively for direct interactions with semiconductor companies in North America and Japan• As President, restructured the company to drastically reduce expenses while maintaining core technical expertise, and built new business partner relationships

UCLA was an amazing experience for me, especially my interactions with graduate and undergraduate students. For many years after I left UCLA, I was receiving e-mails every holiday season from many of my old students.• Built a research program on adaptive and nonlinear control design, with multiple M.S. and Ph.D. students and ongoing funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), the California Department of Transportation, and automotive manufacturers and suppliers (DaimlerChrysler, Ford, Rockwell, Visteon)• Directed four major sponsored research projects on automated heavy-duty vehicles, reliable ranging sensors for driver-assistance systems, and advanced control systems for electric vehicles• Designed and built a prototype all-electric vehicle with drive-by-wire, brake-by-wire, steer-by-wire, and active suspension; several of the students who worked on this program have gone on to become pioneers in the electric vehicle industry• Authored or co-authored one scientific book and over 100 articles in technical journals and technical conferences• Plenary speaker at major technical conferences; invited speaker at more than 40 industrial and academic venues in 12 countries across 4 continents• Taught graduate and undergraduate courses on probability and statistics, stochastic processes, linear systems, nonlinear systems, adaptive and nonlinear control, feedback control, and systems engineering• As Vice Chair for Computing, converted the EE Department’s computer network from an in-house architecture to a "private cloud" architecture that outsourced the administration and support of the network to dedicated professionals• Swam with the UCLA Masters team, participating in the 1996, 1997, 1998, and 1999 Southern California Masters Long Course Meters Championships• Led a successful campaign to ban all gas-powered leafblowers from being used anywhere on the entire UCLA campus; unfortunately, after my departure the leafblowers re-appeared...
