While working at the UCSB Adventure Program's Adventure Rental Center, I engaged with customers and executed rental transactions. By listening to their needs and understanding their outdoor adventure goals, I was able to suggest the best and safest equipment necessary, maintaining sales while putting the customer first. I also maintained equipment and tracked inventory.

In my time with AIW, I served in many different capacities. I taught creative writing to classes of 20+ students, directed daily all-camper assemblies with up to 150 students and 20 staff, met with parents to ensure clear teacher-parent communication, built curriculum, and trained future staff.

CLAS provides invaluable aid to university students at UCSB in search of academic tutoring. As a part of the Writing and Language Services team, I conducted one-on-one, 30 minute tutoring sessions with college students by appointment or on a drop-in basis. With a thorough knowledge of writing conventions, English grammar, and stylistic techniques, I was able to encourage students regarding ways to further their writing. I also researched effective methods of teaching writing standards to English language learners, so I would be better equipped to serve students who were English language learners. Show less

WhatEvery1Says is a 4Humanities project that uses digital humanities methods to study public discourse about the humanities at large data scales. As a member of the Human Subjects Research team, I had the privilege of researching undergraduate student discourse surrounding the humanities through individual surveys, topic models, and interpersonal discussions. By performing data analysis on our multi-million article corpus using tools such as Excel, dendrograms, and pyLDAvis, I was able to produce concise explanations of key findings and trends. I also organized and lead an undergraduate research panel with 50+ attendees, furthering our project's goal of turning research into active advocacy. As a member of the Social Media team, I managed the project's Instagram and Facebook pages, and contributed to the development of publicity campaigns. Show less
