Consultant for the National Science Foundation (NSF) on the South Pole Station Modernization (SPSM) project.Under an IDIQ contract with the National Science Foundation, provided services and consulting on the South Pole Station Modernization (SPSM) project, which involved the design and construction of the new elevated station at the geographic South Pole. Involved in design reviews and providing oversight and technology direction for a variety of systems, ranging from the LAN/WAN architecture. Responsible for the design and oversaw the implementation of 4000+ node local area network backbone for the Internal Revenue Service Tennessee Computing Center, located in Memphis, Tennessee. Network backbone covered ten buildings, totaling over 1.2 million square feet of office space, housing in excess of 4000 users. Responsible for the design and implementation of network management system used to monitor and control network backbone resources throughout the campus. System consisted on Sun SparcStation 20, running SunNet Manager, Bay Networks Optivity, CiscoWorks and Network General Sniffer software.

Responsible for the management of the Network Engineering department with Information Systems. Managed staff of design and field engineers plus provided technical guidance and oversight of the operations staff personnel located at the various field locations in Antarctica. Involved in the design and planning for the first Internet connection on the Antarctic continent at McMurdo Station. Other duties included the preparation of project schedules, budgets and interfacing with the client (NSF) and other agencies (NSFA - US Navy, USGS, New Zealand Antarctic Program and NASA) involved in the United States Antarctic Program (USAP).As Sr. Network Engineer, was responsible for the design, development and implementation of both local and wide area networks for the USAP research station and vessels. Engineered and implemented networks using FDDI, Fast Ethernet and serial connectivity. Engineered and implemented CONUS based Network Operations Center to monitor and control LAN/WAN resources used throughout the USAP.

Involved in the design and engineering of communications networks and systems, including microwave radio, HF radio and fiber optics/spanline systems for a variety of projects including air defense network in Saudi Arabia. Participated in field surveys in Saudi Arabia to determine locations for microwave communications sites required for radar site and command center connectivity.
