Scheduling, bookkeeping, marketing, upkeep of tools, managing clients, knowing building codes, getting insurance, working with contractors and other subcontractors... The whole thing. I was a one man business, and took care of it.

At HomeAway (now VRBO) I used ReactJS and NodeJS to modernize their content management system to provide documentation to their users. HomeAway has a huge amount of helpful material for their users which needed to be organized. ReactJS is a fantastic tool for this because it is so flexible. With ReactJS it is easy to break down complex UI into manageable components which are easy to reuse in multiple contexts. I helped create many user-facing components from tile-cards to infinite-scroll. HomeAway was a wonderful place to work and I will always treasure my time there. Show less

Kimbia provides an online fundraising, crowdfunding, and event platform for nonprofits, higher education, and community foundations. At Kimbia I built reusable components for a not-so-technical customer base. Using ReactJS, it was easy to build reusable components that could be dropped into a web page with a script tag and a single dom element. Our ReactJS based components included tools for users to edit their look and feel inline, on-screen, and in real time. ReactJS was an excellent tool for this use-case.At Kimbia I was responsible for interfacing with our UI and UX designers, creating semantic HTML pages with proper CSS practices built with Sass pre-processor. At CrossBorder I did a ton of full-stack development from SQL queries, through AWS Lambdas, to the React/Redux front end. I found a niche leading several UI efforts. I work with Product as a technical advisor helping to guide their efforts to get the greatest design rewards from developer time. I revived a long-neglected repository of Common Components so that front end components and styles can be shared across our family of applications. I also act as a central nervous system between our several applications, making sure to communicate which elements have been successfully created in each application and making sure these are shared with other teams. I am actively working with design and product to create a design language that is consistent so that users can learn our software quickly and have the same experience on every page, in every app. Show less

At Blackbaud, I work with Luminate Online, a very old but full-featured Software as a Service that helps non-profits raise funds. Some powerful features of our Software are the ability to track user interactions over time, run reports on transactions, sort data by source code, donation amount, time of last donation, create groups based on these criteria, and tailor email campaigns and donation forms to suit each specific group. Using A/B testing for our emails and pages, we track the click-through and conversion rates of different campaigns and continuously improve our techniques. Using our software's built-in functionality, I can set different content to display depending on each user's interests and history.When I implement my clients' pixel-perfect Photoshop designs, I have no access to the backend of our Software, so I must begin with the 1990's style, table based output from our servers, using JavaScript and CSS to move around elements, dismantle tables and create div based pages, and re-build entire pages to make the look and perform the way our clients demand. At IBM I worked with the Genesis project to bring IBM Cloud to life. Using ReactJS I helped built out the user interface where users configured cloud resources. This IBM product is similar to Amazon EC2 service in AWS where users manually configure virtual servers including their processing power, storage, security groups, subnets, availability zones, etc. ReactJS was an excellent tool for helping users configure a product with so many linking parts. We used Redux for state management because we needed to carefully track all of the moving parts. Since Redux is a middleware it aided in building a centralized analytics system. It was here that I first learned about git, node packages and modules, npm build processes, public and private repositories, test-driven development, and so much more.One day a dev on the team rebuilt an EmberJS page in ReactJS and I was hooked! I was very impressed at how simple the React interface was compared to Ember. Ember still has its place, but React was an immediate success.At Cake I was active in all phases of application development including building new pages with EmberJS, ReactJS, and css built with Sass.
