Threatscape provides IT security solutions and services to large corporate, multi-national and state organisations in the UK, Ireland and elsewhere. As a trusted partner to clients for whom IT operations are critical to business success – including household names with tens or hundreds of thousands of employees or transacting billions of dollars electronically per year – Threatscape is growing fast and in 2011 opened a UK office. Our key technology partners include Symantec and Palo Alto Networks.

In 1988, while still studying computer science in University College Dublin (UCD), I founded Systemhouse with a fellow student to put a formal structure on our growing business of assisting Irish companies with the more 'difficult' parts of the emerging use of personal computers in business - particularly security, data communications and networking. One of our first notable successes at Systemhouse was to understand the emerging threat of computer viruses – and to identify a 12-person start-up in California who had a solution, for which Systemhouse gained the exclusive Irish rights. That company was called McAfee… We were at one point their longest established partner anywhere in the world, and later we also became Symantec's strategic security partner in Ireland.Over two decades Systemhouse grew to become one of Ireland’s most successful providers of corporate IT security and also had a substantial business supplying datacomms equipment and services to telcos and ISPs, By the time I sold the business in 2004, it had grown to have 24 staff and over €1m in annual profits. After completing an earn-out period I left the business in 2008 as it approached its 20th anniversary and entered a two year non-compete period.

Before email became the norm for business communication, the fax machine was king - and Alcom fax server software allowed computer users to send and receive faxes directly from their windows PCs. After initially partnering with Alcom (headquartered in California) to implement large-scale fax server solutions for clients in Ireland such as the European call centres of leading high tech firms (some of whom would send a million or more fax pages per month), in 1994 I established Alcom (UK) to manage the sales and support of the core Alcom fax server product in the UK. In the years that followed we won a long list of prestigious clients, including many of the UK's leading law firms.Alcom (Ireland) also developed a number of complementary software packages (such as the Tornado high-speed fax printing application) which we successfully sold to Alcom users around the world.
