House District 32

I served in House District 32, which included two reservations. I was on the State Administration, Local counties and Education Committees while I was at the State Capital. When I returned to my district, I continued to serve on the State-Tribal Relations Committee. I was able to get several bills passed: 1. Tuition waivers-changed the language to include all students from federally or state recognized tribes; 2. Co-sponsored a Native Language bill, funded for $2.0million dollars; 3. Co-sponsored a bill for designation of the former student at Aaniiih Nakoda College, who was responding to a domestic violence call. He was a local deputy.

I worked in the Development Office for Fort Belknap College, writing grants and literature for seeking funding. I was able to get the following grants funded: Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Healthy Stations Grant, Campaign for Human Development (two years), Kellogg Grant (two years), National Park Services grant, Montana Committee for Humanities, Montana Arts Council. ANA Language Grant, "Speaking White Clay."

I was recruited to get KGVA 88.1 Public Radio "on-air," including monitoring construction, delivery of equipment, selecting the "format," insuring the compliance of the Corporation of Public Broadcasting and FAA and seeking funding through grants and donations. The station went on in October 1996.

I worked in this position for over 15 years, under the leadership of Dr. Robert Swan who was the Director of Education. This was a very successful project and received an outstanding recommendation from the Department of Education, Indian Vocational Education Projects. Training was provided to many community members over 15 years. While there, I was selected for Montana Indian Educator of the year in 1988; I was selected for Outstanding Young Women of American; I attended the "Presidential Classroom for Young Americans. I also had the opportunity to completed my education while working.

Rocky Boy Indian Reservation

In the last four months of my job as the Administrative Officer, I was assigned the Service Unit Director duties.Education Department. Upon leaving I received an outstanding performance award. At 28 years old, I was the youngest executive in the Rocky Mountain Region. Public Law 93-638, Indian Self Determination was just being introduced and I had the opportunity to attend all the training in that region.
