Working in an extremely challenging environment within Barrow in Furness, on a submarine in the build program. Working close with and alongside civilian contractors. Fitting, testing and commissioning submarine systems. Responsible for operating and maintaining the Electrical systems on board an Astute class submarine, including preventive/corrective maintenance and diagnosis on main 450V AC and 250V DC, 115v, 24v, systems, generators, main static converters, switchboards, breakers, main battery, transformer rectifiers, starters, motors, lighting circuits, among other on-board electrical equipment. Ensuring correct safe systems of work are in force, utilising the Tag-Out system, risk assessments and permits to work. Adhering to on-board COSHH and H&S guidelines. Form part of the on-board shutdown duty watch, carrying out watch keeping duties on the nuclear reactor and associated systems as well as fire-fighting and damage control responsibilities. Show less

* Engineers on Royal naval Ships are not streamed Electrical/Mechanical, therefore I gained a lot of experience in 5 years of watch keeping, operating and maintaining a wide array of different systems both electrical and mechanical. These included: * All aspects of 1.3MW Diesel Generator maintenance and monitoring. * Reliability Centred and condition based maintenance issues, such as vibration analysis, Oil/Fuel testing, bearing wear and cathodic protection. * Routine and advanced maintenance of Gas Turbines. * Work on Hydraulic Steering and Stabiliser systems. * Maintenance of main electric motors and converters. * Electrical distribution systems ranging from 600v AC to and including 12v DC. * Portable Appliance Testing, ensuring safe use of portable electrical equipment on-board * Watch keeping on Propulsion Plant and all Auxiliary Systems whilst ship is at sea and in harbour. * Subordinate training. * Maintenance of engineering standards on auxiliary machinery including Refrigeration Equipment, Chilled Water Systems, Sewage Plants and Ventilation.

* Working as part of the drilling reactivation maintenance team as core crew on the Fulmar A. Platform. * Carrying out routine maintenance & defect rectification on all drilling package electrical systems and Upgrade projects. * Utilising ISSOW as a Performing authority and an Isolating authority.

* Working alongside civilian contractors, providing electrical support to all Ships and submarines alongside HM Naval Base Clyde. * Carrying out Preventive and corrective maintenance, Fault finding and defect rectification on all aspects of power generation, conversion and distribution. * Often working to tight time constraints to ensure a vessel can go to sea to meet its programme.

* Working as Rig Electrician on board the Maersk Resilient which is a 6th Generation cyber Rig. Utilising (SAP and XRM) Superseded by IFS for maintenance planning and reporting. * Carrying out preventive maintenance and repairs on all rig electrical systems including AKER drilling equipment and interfaces, main power generation and distribution, Bender earth fault system monitoring and fault locating, all domestic services, Lifeboats and FRC. * Utilising Maersk control of work system and Active system.
