Significant improvements in productivity, customer service levels, management systems control, waste reduction and safety performance have been achieved. Based in Cape Town, Arvin Exhausts SA is a subsidiary of a major international company, specializing in the design and supply of original equipment to the automotive industry. The plant in SA produced catalytic converters for several major international automotive companies. Responsible for all aspects of manufacturing, including productivity, quality and safety. Main Achievements This newly built plant had been poorly managed and lacked decisive leadership. Major quality and production problems existed which resulted in massive airfreight bills. Redesigned the organization structure and implemented new production systems and operational disciplines. Within a relatively short period of time the operation was stabilized and improved. Turned the operation from loss making to a profit. Led the company to world-class level 3 certification: - a first for Africa within Arvin.

Chemical Process Engineer responsible for new product development. Later worked on major capital expansion projects as Process Engineer and later as Project Manager. Led the Business Unit Manufacturing Excellence Project during a major company re-engineering initiative spearheaded by Gemini Consulting.

Set up sustainable, empowered work teams * Reduced waste by an average of R10m per annum over the four-year period. * Won National Productivity Institute Award in 2002
