Technical Lead for a team of Oracle developers, delivering a new, large scale payments processing system for a public sector client. My role is a mix of hands-on development, planning, mentoring and client and stakeholder liaison.

On first joining the University in 2001, I worked within the HR business support team. This team was responsible for a mix of support tasks and projects and as such we worked closely with colleagues in Payroll and Pensions.I carried out enhancements to the Oracle Human Resources system and liaised with Oracle technical support to fix bugs. I also applied application patches/updates when these were issued by Oracle (for example at tax year end when there were legislative changes to apply).This team was disbanded as part of a divisional restructure, at which point I moved into the Development Services team as one of a pool of developers where I continued to work primarily in the Oracle domain, although I did also have exposure to ColdFusion web development. I worked as Team Leader of the Student and Academic Services Group development team in I.S Development Services. Our team looked after the Oracle HR and Payroll systems (Oracle eBusiness Suite r12), as well as student related systems such as the Counselling Service, Disability Office and Timetabling Unit applications. These systems were a mix of in-house web applications (ColdFusion and PHP) and 3rd party applications.As team leader, I was responsible for the day to day team management and for addressing the training and development needs of the team members in addition to undertaking project work on my own account. Having joined TSB Scotland as a graduate trainee, I became a Business Banking Manager in 1993, looking after my own portfolio of business customers within Lothian and Borders. This involved credit sanctioning responsibility, ongoing maintenance of the customers’ relationships with the bank and agreement of repayment plans for customers in difficulty.In 1994 I completed the examinations to achieve Membership of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland, although this membership subsequently lapsed when I left the industry to pursue a career in information services.
