Skilled gained in this role include understanding of PLC Programming and batch software, project management, SolidWorks modeling, and proactive problem solving.

Research And Development InternStepan Company Jun 2016 - Aug 2016Northbrook, Illinois, UsMy role as a Synthesis Team Intern consisted primarily of lab scale organic chemistry experimentation. I was part of a project to excel Stepan's Oilfield Solution's product portfolio. My project work consisted of effectively designing experiments to convert given raw materials to a high yield finished product with consideration to intended chemical and physical composition. This included developing an accurate method to measure the product's yield throughout the processing of the material, identifying impurities in samples, troubleshooting and optimizing the overall chemical process, and identifying project set backs. The project work also included collaboration with high level chemists within the Synthesis team to assist in troubleshooting and communicating with the Application Engineers testing with my developed samples to increase product effectiveness. The summer internship assignment concluded with a project update to senior management and CEO Quinn Stepan, Jr. Skills obtained from this experience included communication across various departments, effective process experiment development, understanding of industrial R&D organization and challenges, and general lab chemistry safety and technique.

Technical Sales InternStepan Company Jun 2015 - Aug 2015Northbrook, Illinois, UsThe scope of this role was to give interns exposure to chemical sales by completing sales training as well as carrying out and reporting on market research. Part of the internship assignment included a project to work with a team of 5 Sales Trainees and Interns to report on the market of a newly released product. The work included the team effectively organizing a plan to properly collect information and data from domestic and international sales representatives world wide. This information was to be combined and presented to sales management to get an understanding of key market application and sales volumes of the product. Additionally, a large portion of the internship assignment included market and production research within a specific chemistry. The scope was to propose the size of the market, the application, products and volumes currently produced by potential competitors, and potential market growth. The project included proposing a plan to begin production including backward integration suggestions, new equipment procurement, and COGS analysis. The internship also had large mentor support with corporate managers, directors, and vice presidents. Project findings were presented to management upon completion of the internship as well as a formal report written by me to be archived. Key skills gained included effective market, production, and COGS analysis, communication in a corporate setting, and technical presentation.
