I managed a team of two chemists and two technicians and was responsible for projects to develop phenolic resin products tailored to the needs of customers. I was responsible for scale-up from laboratory 5L batches to typically 10 - 15 tonne plant batches. I also carried out trouble shooting of production problems and developed a Laboratory Management System using Microsoft Access to meet the requirements of ISO 9001.

I started in this role developing HPLC and GPC techniques for analysis of phenolic resins. The GPC system was subsequently used routinely in the development laboratory. I then moved on to developing resins for the foundry industry. I became an internal auditor for the company's then new ISO 9001 systems, I supervised a technician and wrote a database program using Microsoft Access to manage COSHH records for the laboratory and plant.

This was a small company based within the University of Bristol that synthesized novel amino acids and other tools for use in pharmacological and electro-physiological research. I gained experience in multi-step organic synthesis and used ion exchange chromatography and high voltage paper electrophoresis for purification and analysis respectively.

I managed all operational aspects of a Top Tier COMAH chemical plant, this included: ensuring the overall effectiveness of HSEQ Management system, clear delegation of duties & responsibilities and responsibility for all costs on site. As Site Manager I also acted as Production Manager and HR Manager.
