USD offers graduate programs in more than 30 fields of study, including Education and Marine Science. Its Theatre Arts MFA is also one of the most highly ranked in the nation. Bachelor’s degrees range from Fine Arts offerings to specialized scientific fields such as Biophysics and Environmental Studies to professional degrees in Architecture, Computer Science and Engineering. Academic majors include various offerings in History, Literature, Sociology and Theology. Research is a substantial component of the USD academic experience with USD centers undertaking research in a range of fields including Business, Education, Law and Peace Studies. Integrating the academic and the student life experience is one of USD’s distinguishing features, with many students participating in what are called Learning Communities. Learning communities, which are groups of campus residents dedicated to a particular interest or field of study, give students the chance to live and study with those who are in a similar program of study and/or share the same interests. Other campus life options include religious and community service activities as well as offerings in the arts. In the city of San Diego itself, students can find a lot to do to enhance their campus experience. USD’s Admission requirements vary, depending on one’s prospective degree or field of study. Eligible students may receive some amount of financial aid.
